Intervention is a real ego booster!

7 August 2008 5 Comments

Intervention is a real ego booster. The only thing on television more addictive than “Made” has got to be “Intervention” (No pun intended)… Absolutely nothing makes you feel better about your own sad pathetic existence than to watch crack addicts and meth heads steal from their family members and prostitute themselves for a rock… Seriously! Nothing!

I don’t care how bad your circumstances seem… I don’t care how deep of a depression you have sunken into… I don’t care how fucked up your life actually is…

I guarantee you, if you watch one episode of “Intervention” you’ll walk away feeling the smug warmth of superiority that only comes from knowing… Really KNOWING that you are truly a better person than someone else. Knowing that no matter how pathetic you actually are, there is at least one loser out there who is more fucked up than you.

The only thing I don’t understand is how they keep tricking these junkies into showing up for the final interview. I mean the show has been on for what… Two, three years? You would think they would begin to catch on. Ummmm… It’s a documentary about addiction. They’re sending you to rehab… Dumb Ass! Why are you so surprised?

Granted… there are some documentary film makers who legitimately make documentaries about addiction. Kinda’ like the film crew that has been following me around for the past two weeks.

Sure… They’re documenting my drug and alcohol abuse…

Sure… They are here at the behest of my friends and family.

Yes… I have my final interview tomorrow. But I mean… What does that have to do with an intervention… Right?

Ummmmm… Right?

Wait a minute…

I’m just sayin’…

I love that show, and I can see how you may think its funny. I watch it and its like going to an AA meeting, b/c for me those people arent that far fetched. It does make me feel better knowing I am no longer in danger. I think any show that helps people with addiction is to be commended.

Veronica… Your sentiments, although refreshingly genuine, thoughtful and sweet… Make it kind of hard to be a self righteous, condescending douchebag…

Which sadly… Is kinda’ what I’m goin’ for here.

It’s hard to pass judgment on those I deem beneath me… When you make me feel so small.

Don’t ever change. Don’t let the world jade you… Promise, ok?

Ok in the spirit of your blog, I too have wondered how absolutely dumb a person must be to fall for that since the show has been running for years. I always wondered how they pull it off. But also you see those folks and they are so messed up living on the street, I gather they are not watching the A@E channel for enrichment. Also they may subconciously know and want the help.

I guess I never thought of it like that, but you’re probably right… Your average junkie probably only catches an hour or two of tv a month and that’s mostly in lock-up in the county jail, or at the local methadone clinic and something tells me Intervention is probably not their favorite program!
