The Ideal…

30 August 2008 No Comment

Sean Young as Rachael in Bladerunner...Before you say it… rest assured, I already know that I am a sci-fi geek… That being said , Blade Runner was on this afternoon, and yes I watched it.

Yes I have seen it before.

Yes multiple times.

Yes I can quote the dialogue verbatim from memory… What’s your point?

I’m probably going to get severely chastised by my sci-fi geek readers but I really like the original version.

I know… I know the Director’s Cut is considered the superior version but I like the narration because it explains what is going on in Deckard’s mind. And I don’t care what anyone says… I actually like the “happy ending”…

I know… I know… Saying that is blasphemous amongst sci-fi geeks…

I don’t care… I desperately want to believe that Deckard and Rachael live happily ever after… they have to!

“Gaff had been there, and let her live. Four years, he figured. He was wrong. Tyrell had told me Rachael was special. No termination date. I didn’t know how long we had together… Who does?”

You have to understand… This movie was released in 1982, when I was an impressionable lad of 12. That means For most of my childhood, and all of my adult life I wanted to be Deckard (Harrison Ford) and I wanted to do Rachael (Sean Young)…

She was the most beautiful creature I had seen up to that point (Well with the exception of Ms. Kalter my 3rd Grade teacher)… To my adolescent mind… and eyes she was the essence of femininity personified… She was beauty, and sex, and mystery, and danger all rolled up into one…

In short she was the ideal…

To the point… She still is

Sean… Call me…

I’m just sayin’…
