Movie lovers Suresh Joachim and Claudia Wavra today emerged as the winners of the Netflix Popcorn Bowl event after 123 hours and 10 minutes of continuous movie watching. Hosted by Netflix, the world’s largest online movie rental service, the grueling movie marathon began on October 2 at 12:00 p.m. ET and concluded today at 3:10 p.m. ET establishing a new Guinness World Record for most consecutive hours spent watching movies.

Honestly… I think I probably hold the un-official record… I’ve just never been monitored doing it.
Of the eight Netflix challengers holed up in a plexi-glass house in New York’s Times Square all but two (the eventual winners) dropped out by the 72-hour mark.
In total, Suresh and Claudia watched 57 films, including The American President, The Bourne Identity
, Chariots of Fire
, Kill Bill Vol. 2
, The English Patient
and Caddyshack
.
Academy-Award winning actress Susan Sarandon dropped off the final film Thelma & Louise, and gave the weary participants words of encouragement in the final hours of the event.
I wonder what you say to encourage an over glorified slacker to continue to lie around doing nothing???
“Come on… You can do it! I mean… If you feel like it, or not… Whatever…”
“Look… It’s this, or you have to go out and find a job.”
“You can either watch this movie or listen to my views on politics… It’s your choice.”
Anyway…
Under Guinness World Record rules, each movie had to be viewed until the last credit rolled and competitors couldn’t divert their eyes from the screen at all, which must have really been hard especially during Thelma & Louise… They were however, allowed 10-minute breaks between movies.
The winners claim stamina, determination, love of movies, team camaraderie and the chance to get in the Guinness Book of World Records book kept them in the game. Personally I don’t really see what the big deal is. I mean they call it a Guinness World Record… I call it last week.
I’m Just Sayin’…
I’ve watched movies all night, but then I had to resume my day job of beachcombing.
And what kind of drugs did we take not to fall asleep for 123 hours and 10 minutes, I need me some of that.
I’d have just let them prop their lids open with toothpicks. “Hey, look, you can do this! Because otherwise, you get the ultra-violence.”
Mother… WOW! I wish I had your job.
The girl I would bring anywhere… No drugs… All natural. It was all me!
darling… Sweet Clockwork Ornage reference… See! That’s why I love you.
Back atcha.
Yeah man how many hits of Coke did they do to accomplish this. I mean staying up for that much time had to take a toll on their bodies. Hope they won some money and not just a medal or award.
You mean the fame and the glory isn’t enough???
